Colony Grill

We had to level out the playing field with Pizza…In 1935, a post-Prohibition tavern named Colony Grill opened in an Irish neighborhood in Stamford, Connecticut. Since then, the “Colony” has become famous for what is now its only menu offering: a one-of-a-kind, thin-crust pizza that is served simply – with or without our signature hot oil – amid classic American charm. With that said, hands down…this is the best pizza in CT if you prefer a thin crust, perfectly melted cheese and a hell of a kick! Feeling bold? Then you have got to try the infamous “Stingers” or you can always go for the more mild version thin crust with “Hot Oil.” Feeling extra bold? Then why not go for both! Plain or bold, this thin crust pizza is sure to be your favorite! Guaranteed!

Frank Pepe Pizza

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana is one of the oldest and best-known pizzerias in the United States. Known locally as Pepe’s, it has its Original Location in the Wooster Square neighborhood of New Haven, CT, as well as stores in Fairfield, Manchester and Danbury CT, the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT, and in Yonkers, NY. Frank Pepe Pizzeria was founded in 1925 by Frank Pepe (b. April 15, 1893 d. September 6, 1969). Born in the town of Maiori, on the Amalfi coast, southwest of Naples, Frank Pepe was the quintessential Italian immigrant. Poor and illiterate, he immigrated to the United States in 1909 at age 16 with little more than his health and a strong work ethic. His first job was at a New Haven, CT factory until he returned to fight for his native Italy in World War 1 a few years later.

Long story short…This is some of the best pizza in the country. During the summer months they offer a Margharita pizza with fresh tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil. Some people say it’s impossible not to order the clam pizza everytime. The pies are cooked in a high temp 80+ years old coal fired brick ovens making the pizza & crust cook to perfection. For the out of towners…get ready for the pizza experience of your life.

Louis’ Lunch

By at September 17, 2012 | 8:00 am | 0 Comment

Louis’ Lunch is considered the birthplace of the hamburger and has been featured on the Food Network and Travel Channel specials for a good reason. If you are a burger fanatic, then there should be a strong obligation to visit this monumental staple in history. At Louis’ Lunch in New Haven, hamburgers are still cooked in antique, cast-iron grills. The burgers are positioned vertically inside the grill so that they flame-cook evenly on both sides. The potato salad is a great compliment to these juicy burgers on toasted white bread. Just don’t ask for ketchup! The moto here is simple – “This is not Burger King. You don’t get it your way. You take it my way, or you don’t get the damn thing!”
