  • Carpe Diem (“Seize the day!”) is a newcomer in New Canaan. and making a great name for itself rather quickly. It’s a charming, romantically lighted place, with charcoal-gray banquettes, and walls decorated with photographs and racks of wine bottles. The cuisine is high-end Northern Italian. The owner, Allan Basaran, hails from Turkey, but, in his words, “I have had a lifelong love affair with Italian food.” Carpe Diem’s Ecuadorean chef, Victor Pazuenza, oversees a menu that ranges over the northern Italian map, with an emphasis on pasta dishes. At the start of your meal you’ll be treated to some crusty Wave Hill bread and a tangy olive oil dip redolent of garlic, rosemary, bay leaf, onion and red pepper. Now that’s classy CT! Carpe Diem…simply epic!

Very good food. The Milanese is also one of my favorite dishes. Simple, fresh and over a salad, it’s the perfect summer dish. When you arrive, you’re greeted and seated with an excellent level of service. The setting and decor is very nice and I can honestly say its one of my favorite Italian restaurants. All the pasta dishes are great…I just can’t eat pasta anymore so I try to go with the seafood or something over a salad. You can’t go wrong with any dish you order. In my top picks for FC food.

Some of my favorite Italian food. Exquisite in every way. Great staff, attentive service, amazing menu. One of the most popular places to hit New Canaan. I’ve seem any come and go, but this one will most certainly stay. It’s just one of those places that makes people feel good. The Veal Milanese over arugula is so simple yet my favorite dish. Little lemon over the top and its one of the most delicious simplistic meals you will ever have. If you want something fancier, the Bolognese is very good. Really everything here is great. I doubt you’ll find something you didn’t enjoy.

Great food and very charming decor that sets a very nice mood. The description is dead on and the food is very good. Really fond of their pastas. The presentation and introduction at the table is really a nice touch. The bread and olive oil dip served prior to your meal is done elegantly and in a very nice fashion. It’s the small things that make a great place a phenomenal place. I definitely put Carpe Diem on my top five places to eat from Greenwich to New Canaan.

Very good Italian and a popular restaurant in New Canaan. For a main dish I would go with either the Bolognese or the Halibut which are my two favorite dishes. For appetizers I like the Tuna Tartar or the Carpaccio with lemon and oil. Great Italian place.
